XAT 2011 Analysis

Posted by topCATcoaching Experts

This year XAT was conducted on Sunday, 2nd January 2011, probably the first surprise of the year for the XAT takers. Across the country candidates were heard giving dis-heartening responses for XAT. It was a challenging and tough paper. The distribution of marks across different sections varied and different questions had different weightages between 1to 6. The essay was also presented in the form of an argument where the candidate had to write his judgement on it. The topic was as follows:

“The statesman who would attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals, would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an authority which could safely be trusted to no council and senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it.”

The key of solving the objective test lied in balancing the time between high weightage (4, 5,6) questions and low weightage (1, 2, 3) questions.
Structure of the XAT:
Total Number of Questions: 101
Total Marks: 253
Total time allotted: 120 minutes + 20 minutes for Essay writing
Negative Marking: 1/4th of the weightage.
